Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for electricity. When I woke up this morning, there wasn’t any. I didn’t go wake anyone up; I didn’t know how long it was out or how long it was going to be out. I wasn’t going to go into a 40 minute discussion about why we couldn’t open the fridge or why the TV didn’t work. So I let them all sleep, if we were going to skip school, so be it. Luckily it came on right before 8am and since only Maizie has to be at school early, she was able to make it.

I am thankful for a toilet that flushes without electricity. We lived in a house with a well and what a pain that was. The problem I had was, as soon as I knew it wouldn’t work, I had to go. Luckily today, I was able to go and flush without a problem, woo hoo!

Now the thing I am most thankful for this week…

Alabama Worley
I am thankful for Alabama Worley. This week she has been with us for four years. She may not be the brightest dog, let’s face it she is just a downright doofus most of the time, but she is ours and we love her. She was days away from being “put down” in western Tennessee when we staked our claim. We drove to Connecticut to pick her up at a rest stop and when we got home is when all Hell broke loose. Stella (just 9 months at the time) was sitting on the floor when Alabama RAN into the house. Stella screamed and then started to cry. Teddy (who was afraid of dogs and is still a tiny bit weary of Alabama to this day) 2 years old, jumped onto the couch and started to cry, LOUDLY. Maizie, who was 3, went up to Alabama grabbed her around the neck and squeezed her as hard as she could, she was making her claim. From that day on, Maizie has been Alabama’s favorite (2nd to me of course).

Right at home, even looking for food the very first day

Alabama Worley has eaten countless crayons, Barbie shoes and tiny toys. She has gone through the garbage numerous times and she has ruined the couch with her neighborhood vigilance.
Mrs Kravitz keeping an eye on the neighborhood...can't trust those squirrels

The thing she does that really gets on my nerves is that she steals food right off the counter or table and she doesn’t even wait for the room to clear anymore. She will do it while I’m watching her (like I said, not the brightest). She may get on my nerves when EVERY TIME I step backwards I step on her or when I walk in a room and she follows me or when she insists on getting on my lap, but the Kraus house wouldn’t be the same without her. We love you Alabama Worley!!
I can't even lay on the couch when the kids go to bed by myself

  2. Ahhh...I would be Thankful for electricity too! I'm glad it came back on for you! I'm also thankful for flushing toilets without electricity! I grew up in a house with a well, we always had to fill the bathtub for a hurricane... The 1st hurricane in our house, I told my husband we had to fill the tub...he looked at me like I had 2 heads...then explained why we didn't need to do that!! ;)

  5. That is the best dog name ever! And what is it with dogs and Barbie shoes? My cocker spaniel growing up would go after them like they were candy. Happy to hear your electricity came back on.

  7. I can't flush without electricity. It's the biggest injustice of a civilized world, in my mind!

Love your dog - we just adopted our very first three weeks ago and I can't imagine our family without him!

  8. I thought we would lose our power last night, it was so windy! I do not have a dog, but my hubby keeps trying to talk me into it. I was worried about my small kids and big dog (which he wants)so I am waiting until they get a bit older...and can clean up poop!

  9. It really is the little things! I love your dog...she is too sweet. That couch photo is what I've got going on over here right now with my 6 month old golden who thinks he's a lapdog at nearly 50 pounds! HAHA! Happy THursday!

  10. I'm cracking up! I grew up in Newtown, CT and had a well - we always filled our bathtub with water whenever it was possible to lose power - for flushing toilets! It was so much a part of our lives that my sister, who lives in NEW YORK CITY, still does that! :-)

  11. She is such a pretty dog!! Its amazing how they find a way to charm themselves into our hearts, no matter how dense or difficult they might be. We used to have a golden, a very very dumb golden, it was so fun having that warm furry loving dog around our house, I miss her!!

  12. Oh my goodness! She looks exactly like our dog, Daisy!! And I swear, I could have written the EXACT same "annoyances" These dogs are twins in every way! But, despite their flaws, what a blessing our pets are in our lives!

  15. Aw, there really is nothing like a furbaby. They just become a member of the family. I don't know what we'd do without our Phoebe.

  16. Awww! Love this! Pets are so great- even if they are a pain at times! We just got a puppy and a kitty this past year, and I am so glad we did. The kids and hubby had been begging forever and I finally caved. Really- its awesome, no matter how much work. Pure love! :)
