Not Quite Wordless Wednesday...Bruin Edition

Last night our wonderful neighbor gave Ted and Teddy tickets to a meet and greet with the Providence Bruins. Teddy couldn't wait.

They started the evening off with a stop to get gaggas and a coffee milk. I asked them to bring me three all the way but they said no (probably best for everyone).

They made their way to the Dunkin Donuts Center and pure joy came over Teddy. He met a bunch of players, the mascot, got autographs and went in a bounce house.

Teddy is not shy at all, he talks to everyone. He kind of reminds me of Sophia from Golden Girls because sometimes he doesn't have a filter. When most of the kids were nervous talking to the players; Teddy went right up to the tables, introduced himself, told them his age and said how he started playing hockey this year. They were impressed with his size (not too many 4ft 7in 88lb 6 year old around).

He went up to the Head Coach and said, "So what do you do?" He said he was the Head Coach; to which Teddy replied, "So you're HC'" as he handed him his roster to be signed.

The best has to be the exchange with Christian Hanson.
Hanson: Hey Buddy, how's it going?
Teddy: GREAT! I'm having a great time!
(Teddy looks at the stitches on his face)
Teddy: Do you have a big sister?
Hanson: (Confused a little) Yes, I have two.
Teddy: (Nods, knowingly)

He thought he got them from his sister, Teddy knows how vicious a big sister can be.
Our dog was named after his uncles!

When he came home I asked how it was. He said, "It was the greatest night and he didn't want it to end."

The Casserole That Disappeared

I frequently make up recipes. I think of something I want to make and look on the internet. Usually the ones I find have ingredients I don’t have (I’m not going to go get because I’m too lazy) or things one of the kids won’t want to eat.

Last night I wanted taco casserole. After searching, for what seemed like forever with not much success (FYI, I would not put cinnamon in a taco), I decided to mash up a bunch of recipes and came up with this…

Taco Casserole
Taco casserole...not a bit of it was left.

1 lb ground turkey
2 cans Rotel
2 c shredded Cheddar cheese
8 hard taco shells
1 onion chopped
1 packet taco seasoning

Preheat oven 375
Brown ground turkey and add onion until softened. Add taco seasoning and mix as directed. Stir in 2 cans of Rotel (I drained them). Heat through.
In 2qt casserole layer 4 broken taco shells, half the turkey mixture, the cheese. Repeat ending with cheese. Put in oven for 20 minutes.
Top with sour cream, black olives and extra cheese (if it tickles your fancy).

Enjoy!

Kids These Days...The Poor Things

There are things kids these days may never get to experience firsthand and I feel bad for them. They are never going to have a truly happy and fulfilling childhood. Some will enjoy some of them, but it’s second hand and just not the same; they didn’t live it. If you’re as old as I am, you will understand.

A "Typical" Week

A typical week in the life of the Kraus House (in pictures...mostly).

I went to brush my teeth and when I opened the medicine cabinet I found this lovely gem. I would have to say Maizie or Teddy is to blame becuase I don't think Stella can reach that high.
Rehab Barbie
Teddy came home from school and had two Toaster Strudels and Nutella on graham crackers. Then 15 minutes before the timer on the oven was going to go off, he came in asking for chips and salsa. This was the reaction I got when I said no, a teary, crumbling heap on the floor. Really? You're not going to starve in the next 15 minutes.
A bit overly dramatic
Stella all dressed for her day at school. We get there and the high school girls all come over to say Hi to her and tell me how cute she is. Stella says Hi, gets her name tag and high tails it over to the play area. I think she might like it there.
Fancy hair to match fancy clothes
We had lasanga and garlic bread for dinner the other night. As we were sitting there Teddy asked what would happen if he put the lasagna between the garlic bread and made a sandwich.

This isn't a one time thing, Stella falls out of bed a lot. Most of the time she rolls under her bed, this time she rolled the other way. As soon as I saw her I did what every good mother should do, went and got the camera then put her back into bed.
Stella: "Bed rails are for babies!"
